On a damp grey drizzly day a group of nine staff and year 11s caught the train up to London for our annual winter term dose of “The Woman in Black.”
Despite the weather we managed to go round an empty Covent Garden and a bustling China Town, the day after Chinese New Year. That was a site to remember. We made friends with some police and swapped caps and helmets.
The play was splendidly frightening although those who’d seen it in school noticed the subtle changes from the original script…..not necessary we felt.
The day ended well despite us missing our train and having to catch the next one. Bless the taxi company who waited for us.
Chris took us all on a long walk around the North Dorset countryside this morning. He claims the route was about 7 miles but I’m sure we saw polar bears at one point. The scenery was beautiful, the ground very muddy and the weather crisp but dry. To round off a great morning, there was as amazing meal waiting for us when we got back. Roasted red pepper and tomato soup followed by fish pie and vegetable lasagne. It had all been prepared by Duncan with help from Charlotte, Fran and Vicky.
Thanks to Chris for organising the walk and Duncan and his assistants for the meal!
Lots of our students take a course in Constructions Skills from Certificate to Diploma level. Some students follow the course in the centre and some go to the also excellent Skills4Life centre at Rylands Farm.
Here Stephen is working hard wiring a light fitting. Useful skills and a possible career?
Just to show it’s not all fun and games at SLC, here are some students taking a Maths exam on Monday. Students tend to do very in their exams with us and we wish them good luck with this particular one, and all the exams to come!
We’re very proud that one of our students has won the Prince’s Trust XL South West region Educational Achiever of the Year. Joe very much deserved to win and now has a chance at winning the national award.
The XL club is run at SLC by Vicky. This is the second year in a row that one of her students has won this prize. This is an exceptional achievement. Well done Vicky.
Skye made a gorgeous self portrait using photography, Gimp and Inkscape.
She then transfered the image to paper with the projector and coloured it using water soluble pencil crayons, then she took the real risk and water washed the whole thing to create a painting.
Sherborne Learning Centre is a centre for children and young people in North Dorset who are not in school. We provide a full curriculum that is designed to meet their needs. We are not a school but we do provide a rich education and do prepare young people for the next stages in their lives by helping them gain skills, confidence and qualifications.
